MISSION STATEMENT

he Hungarian Ministry of National Cultural Heritage has established the Frankfurt’99 Non-profit Organisation with a view to manage and organise some of the key international cultural events that commemorate the first millennium of the Hungarian statehood.

Hungary shall be the guest of honour at the 1999 Frankfurt Book Fair between 13th-17th October 1999. Hungary’s participation at this grand event shall open a series of international events to commemorate the first millennium of Hungarian statehood. Approaching the 21st century at the gates of the new millennium and the European Union, the 1999 Frankfurt Book Fair shall be an excellent opportunity for Hungary to turn the world’s attention to the treasury of Hungarian history and culture.

The Frankfurt ’99 Non-profit Organisation has the honour to manage and co-ordinate all preparatory activities related to Hungary’s participation at the 1999 Frankfurt Book Fair. Our work includes the management of Hungary’s presentation at a number of international book fairs with special focus on the 1998 Frankfurt Book Fair from 7th to 12th October 1998.

The Frankfurt’99 Non-profit Organisation has a rich profile, which includes the publication of books, newspapers, periodicals, recordings and covers a wide range of activities in arts and public collections with the sole mission to contribute to the protection of the Hungarian cultural heritage. All our projects are managed on a non-profit basis and are made transparent through our continuous communications in the media. Our office stages book presentations, supports professional translators and publishers and financially manages the Hungarian programmes at the 1998 and 1999 Frankfurt Book Fairs.

Our mission is to present the great diversity of Hungarian literature to the world. Our ambition is both to present the new generation of Hungarian literature and to present the new books of the well-established and well-known Hungarian authors to their readers abroad.

The Frankfurt’99 Non-profit Organisation is in charge of organising all the cultural events (concerts, theatre and dance performances, film shows and exhibitions) that accompany Hungary`s presence at the 1999 Frankfurt Book Fair.

We very much hope to win new friends to Hungarian culture across Germany and the world. Our staff works to live up to all expectations and hopes to confirm our friends’ decision that puts Hungary in the focus of attention at the 1999 Frankfurt Book Fair.
