Maecenas is one of the very first small publishing workshops that came to life in the late eighties. Maecenas publications include English language anthologies of verse, a new edition of the Cambridge Encyclopaedia, and a series of histories whose latest additions are a comprehensive history of Antiquity and a short history of the Near East. Maecenas is also the exclusive publisher in Hungarian of Kurt Vonnegut. It counts the Oxford University Press and Cambridge University Press among its foreign partners. In 1998 it published a „History of Romania” and „lives of U.S. Presidents”, both were successful. Future plans aim to permit Maecenas to maintain its characteristic combination of commercial titles and works of high culture. In 1999 the company intends to publish - among other titles - Sándor Kányádi’s poems in bilingual (English and Hungarian) edition and a thesaurus of European rulers. The slogan of the company is very simple: Educating and Entertaining.
